What to do in Aguas Nuevas
Beaches
Aguas Nuevas lies a couple of minutes inland from the beaches of Los Locos and El Cura. Both hold the Blue Flag in 2026. They are family-friendly and come with lifeguards, first aid, sun loungers, ramps and foot showers in season.
They consist of fine gold sand and clear waters full of fish. A variety of water sports is offered here: go fishing on the rocks, snorkelling, diving, or rent a jet-ski, paddleboards or a boat. The calm waters and hot sun will definitely give you a lovely day at the beach. The cliffs also make for a beautiful walk alongside the coast.
Water park Aquopolis
Aquopolis Torrevieja, on Avenida Delfina Viudes, has water attractions for children and adults of all ages, from calm pools and children's areas to fast, high slides. It opens for the summer season, roughly June to early September; book online for the best prices.
Sport facilities
Aguas Nuevas is also home to Torrevieja's Ciudad Deportiva, the town's main sports complex, near the Aquopolis area. It includes football pitches, the Nelson Mandela rugby stadium, indoor sports halls, swimming pools, and padel and tennis courts.
The Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Torrevieja, the official language school, is also in this part of town.
Friday market
Every Friday morning, from about 8:00 to 14:00, Torrevieja's big weekly market fills Parque Antonio Soria on Avenida Delfina Viudes, next to Aquopolis. Hundreds of stalls sell clothing, fruit and vegetables, leather goods, shoes, handbags, bedding and more. In summer the day can occasionally move because of events, so check the town's notices.
It is a vibrant happening, with many sounds, smells, and sights. Many stalls offer authentic leather bags, sunglasses, baby clothes etc. It is not a tourist market! The atmosphere is cosy and local, with people catching up after the week.
The real thrill is the foods stalls, with an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables for low prices. You’ll find freshly baked bread and cakes. You can even score breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice here! Come early, so you’ll be ahead of the crowd.
Other noteworthy activities in and around Torrevieja
Torrevieja has so many things to do, we can’t start laying them all out. So, here are some more of our favourite things to do in this city:
- Visit the salt lakes and the natural park visitor centre at La Mata, or the Museo del Mar y de la Sal (Sea and Salt Museum) in the town centre
- See the Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción
- Go to Parque de las Naciones, a family park laid out like a map of Europe, with a lake and ducks.
- Play golf in Orihuela Costa, for example at Villamartín, Las Ramblas, Real Club de Golf Campoamor or Las Colinas
- Shop at Zenia Boulevard in Orihuela Costa, often described as the largest shopping centre in Alicante province, or at Habaneras in Torrevieja
- Take a seasonal boat trip from Torrevieja port to the island of Tabarca, including glass-bottomed boats

Property market in Aguas Nuevas
Aguas Nuevas is a well-sought after area because it is close to the beach front but without the crowds and traffic. It’s excellent for families, due to the great facilities and a calm environment. Many people have their full-time residency here.
The area is made up mostly of private urbanisations with bungalows, villas and townhouses, with fewer apartment blocks than on the seafront.
Homes here are usually somewhat cheaper than those on the seafront, and you get more space and privacy for the money. For current asking prices and registered sale prices, see our Aguas Nuevas area page.
Aguas Nuevas has a mixed population of Spanish and northern European residents, and there are small communities where you can use your own language. Torrevieja as a whole had about 106,000 registered residents in 2025, just over half of them foreign nationals, yet the small-town feeling lives on here: during the day you will see children in the playgrounds and parks, and English is widely understood.
